Tuarangi is a William Atkins designed “Ingrid”. Built from Totara on Australian hardwood by the legendary Jack Crooks in Invercargill and registered in 1962. Soon after, she became the first South Island built boat to sail around the world and went on to have many adventures. In the mid 1990’s she was given a no-expense-spared refit that laid the foundation for a timeless quality yacht. We have owned her for 12 years and sailed over 15000 nm, including a year-long cruise to Vanuatu, New Caledonia and the 2015 Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart.

Her cutter ketch rig makes for easy sail handling and plenty of sailing options and with her brand new genoa she has impressed many with her performance in light winds. William Atkins described her as “The kind of boat that behaves in rough water. She can be depended upon to sail herself. She is ableness personified. And equal to any situation”. Her wide, spacious teak decks allow easy and safe movement onboard, in any conditions.

Below decks, beautifully crafted Kauri and Afromorsia woodwork feature throughout. In the sleeping area there is a double and a single berth, with an additional 3 berths in the saloon. Spacious galley with large fridge and freezer. A woodburning stove adds warmth for winter sailing. The back of one of the saloon seats swings out to give a comfortable, forward facing navigation area. Good sized heads with basin and holding tank. Ample stowage options throughout the boat, cater for longer voyages.
