Upper Harbor Racing with PCC

A day racing at Ponsonby Cruising Club with Kay (Vice Commodore PCC) -
It was such a fabulous day on the water for the Upper Harbor Regatta.
The lack of wind was a challenge for the first race but improved for the second.
All 19 yachts looked magnificent, and it was humbling to feel part of so much history.
I know of at least one family who saw the boats as they crossed the harbor bridge and chose to park up at Westhaven to get a closer look.
I was part of the crew on the old H-class mullet boat ‘Nomad’. Nomad was once the family boat belonging to Des Townson’s father Tom.
Des is said to have been influenced by the pleasing lines and clean appearance of Nomad, features that he later tried to incorporate into his own work as a yacht designer.
Des later sailed on Nomad 50 years after his father Tom had sold it.. It was a great experience to sail on a little piece of history and experience the workings of a gaff rig.
The turnout at the PCC was also very good, and a great way to end the day, mingling with friends over a few drinks and a tasty buffet.
Thank you to the Floating Dock for sponsoring, and all the yachts that entered.
