“Serious seller open to reasonable offer. I am leaving the country and would love her to go to someone that will enjoy her as much as I did”

Bluegrass is a fine example of the New Zealand modern Classic era. Designed by John Lidgard in 1974, she is one of the three examples, built in 1977 in the Lidgard yard. She is build in triple diagonal kauri glued and glassed over, and riveted together on laminated kauri frames. Deck is Plywood glassed over. Alloy mast, boom and spinnaker pole. Designed as a bluewater cruiser/racer, she displays elegant lines allowing her comfortable cruising speed around 6/7 knots with little effort, while her hull shape gives her very comfortable sea-keeping capability. She is a really lovely boat to sail, very comfortable and safe in all conditions. would suit a couple or a family looking for a reasonable sized vessel. At only 38ft, she is easy to handle single-handed while providing enough comfort and space to undertake extensive cruising with 4 people on board. I have owned her since 2018 with the project of taking her offshore for long adventures. My plan has now changed and she is looking for a new owner. Having prepared her for extended sailing, I have undertook some major projects as follows:

  • in Jan 2019,
    • installed a brand new engine (BETA 50), alongside with new coupling, shaft and propeller (3 Blades SPW feathering propeller that gives a crusing speed of 5-6 knots at 1800rpm
    • completely redone the fuel line
    • completely redone the electrical wiring of the boat
  • November 2020
    • all new standing rigging, including new halyards
    • removed initial teak deck, repaired plywood as required, laid new 6mm plywood over whole deck, glassed over and 2-pack paint. All new fastenings for deck fittings
    • Complete hull paint job with international 2-pack paint
    • New gas installation (new line and BEP sensor and solenoid)
    • changed all skin fittings and valves to plastic and redone most of the plumbing on board
    • new 12V ISOTHERM refrigeration system, design for fridge/freezer capacity
  • November 2023
    • complete paint job in cockpit with 2-pack paint
    • Varnishes cabin coamings
