PATIO BAY – RACING, RALLYING AND JUST CRUISING PIRATE PARTY

Patio Bay Sat 13th December
The pictures say it all – Great Party, Great racing, Great company
Around 100 yacht and launch crews descended on the bay after a day of superb racing from an Orakei start. 10-12 knots saw almost all of the racing fleet arrive within 1 hour of each other on a reaching wind, to be greeted by our host Mike Mahoney on his beautiful 1901 launch Moerangi to record the finishing boats. The pirate dressed crews were greeted on the beach with a tot of rum before meandering up to the classic bach for a BBQ feast and prizegiving read by Richard Cave, finishing the warm night with convivial chatter, and even hearing the notes of a strumming guitar.
A leisurely start on Sunday saw most of the boats depart mid-morning in a following light breeze to sail gently home.
Our very generous sponsors Lawsons Wine, Burnsco, Mount Gay, Matakana Botanicals, Great Barrier Bee Co, Boat Books and the Mahoney Family allowed valued recognition of the winners and participators in this superb event. We encourage everyone to join in supporting these local businesses through your patronage and sustaining our community.
